Carlos “Fifo” Rengifo is a Colombian bassist, composer and music educator. He has been an active musician in the Dallas area for 18 years, where he has performed and written music for various Jazz, Latin, and Classical ensembles. He holds a B.M. and an M.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. He directs ensembles and teaches bass and strings for Dallas County Community Colleges and the Dallas Independent School District. “Fifo” performs regularly with Jose Aponte’s “Caribe Club” Latin Jazz band and with salsa band “Carabali”. He has performed with artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Gregg Bissonette, Will Kennedy, Paul Wertico and Ney Rosauro, within many others. In 2008 he released the CD “Gente” with his Colombian-Jazz ensemble ‘Fifo & Citizens of The World’ featuring original compositions and arrangements. He has performed in music festivals in New York City, Houston, Austin, Dallas and Cali (Colombia).
